George Frideric HandelOpera in three actsCity of Athens Symphony Orchestra & Athens Chamber Choir In May 2023, the Göttingen International Handel Festival focused on Greek Αntiquityunder the title Hellas! Internationally renowned Handel connoisseur George Petrou, the Festival’s artistic director, both conducted and staged the new production of “Semele”, a musical drama conceived “after the manner of an oratorio”, which relatesthe story of yet another Jupiter’s love affair with a mortal. Taking over from Göttingen, Olympia is presenting in co-production with the Festival this fresh, exuberant rendition of “Semele”, featuring a brilliant cast of early music expertsingers, with Swiss star soprano Marie Lys in the title role.
